Monmouth Posts 12-7 Comeback Win Over Wagner

Freshman Kimmy Tumolo (Mullica Hill, NJ/ Clearview) scored the first three goals of the game for Wagner to give the Seahawks an early 3-1 lead en route to a 4-2 halftime lead but the Hawks stormed back in the second half to post a 12-7 Northeast Conference (NEC) win.
 
With the victory, the Hawks improve to 4-6 on the season and are a perfect 2-0 in the NEC while Wagner, in dropping its fifth straight, is also 4-6 overall and are now 0-2 in league play.
 
In the second half, Monmouth erupted for 10 goals, including eight straight to start the half, while allowing just three en route to the victory. Goals by Sam Savona and Kaleigh Gibbons tied the game at 4-4 three minutes into the second half.

Cassie Campasano then took over, scoring three unanswered goals to give the Hawks a 7-4 lead with 18:05 left. Monmouth would score three more times to stretch the lead to 10-4 before Wagner stemmed the tide on a goal off a free-position shot by freshman Gretchen Fay (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/ Manasquan) to make it a 10-5 game with 6:56 to go.
 
A goal by Monmouth's Kaleigh Gibbons at 3:11 was countered by a Seahawk goal on a free-position shot at 2:25 that made it 11-6. Campasano sank her game-high fifth goal of the game on as free-position shot with a minute to go to make it 12-6 before Wagner freshman Taylor Pastore (Baldwinsville, NY/ C.W. Baker) rounded out the day's scoring with a free-position shot 12 seconds later to fashion the final score at 12-7.
 
Tumolo's three goals paced Wagner while Bulken, Fay, Pastore, and sophomore Jessica Mills (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township) added one goal apiece. Bulken also had an assist on the afternoon as did freshman Shea Gegan (Manasquan, NJ/ Manasquan).
 
Monmouth out-shot Wagner 34-18, led in ground balls 25-19 while the teams each won 11 draw controls. The Hawks were 5-of-8 on free-position shots while Wagner was successful on 3-of-6 of its free-position shots.
 
The Seahawks swing back into action this weekend, returning home to Hameline Field to host Saint Francis University on Thursday, March 28 at 3:00 pm before Robert Morris invades Staten Island on Saturday, March 30 at Noon.
