Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College softball team was defeated in both ends of its first NEC doubleheader of 2013, falling to Central Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks were bested 13-1 in the first game before losing 8-0 in game two. In the losses, Wagner falls to 4-17 and 0-2 in NEC play, while CCSU improves to 10-8 and 2-0 in conference action.

Junior Kristen Matteoni (Reno, NV/ Galena) scored the lone run for the Seahawks on the afternoon, driving a home run to center field in the fourth inning of game one. The home run was Matteoni's team-leading third of the season.

The Blue Devils received their offense in both ends of the doubleheader via the long ball, hitting two home runs in the first game and four more in the second. Both games ended after six innings.

Wagner returns to action on a modified NEC schedule next week due to the holiday weekend. The Seahawks will travel to Fairfield, CT to square off with Sacred Heart in a doubleheader Friday, beginning at 12:00 pm.
