Box Score Kissimmee, FL – The Wagner College softball team fell to Columbia, 5-2, on Friday morning at the Osceola County Softball Complex. In the defeat, the Seahawks fall to 2-14, while the Lions improve to 3-5.
Columbia jumped ahead in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs – two earned – on four hits in the frame.
Wagner would chip into the deficit in the third inning, when sophomore
Jessica Albarran (Corona, CA/ Eleanor Roosevelt) drove in junior
Kristen Matteoni (Reno, NV/ Galena) for the Seahawks' first run of the ballgame. Matteoni reached on a one-out error, and came around to score on the two-out single by Albarran.
The Lions would tally an additional run in the bottom of the third for a 5-1 advantage, with Wagner cutting the final deficit to 5-2 with a run in the top of the seventh on a double play.
Senior
Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA/ Broad Run) went the distance for Wagner, surrendering two earned runs while striking out six.
The Seahawks return to action in the second game of Friday's doubleheader when they face Rider.
