Seahawks Tally Season-Best 14 Hits In 7-4 Win Over Saint Peter's

Box Score

Kissimmee, FL – Freshman Abigail Beasley (Peoria, AZ/ Centennial) went 4-for-4 with two RBI as the Wagner College softball team put together a season-best offensive performance in a 7-4 win over Saint Peter's on Monday night. In the win, the Seahawks improve to 2-9, while the Peacocks fall to 2-13.

Senior Carley Nicoletti (Plainville, NY/ CW Baker) extended her hit streak to seven games in the victory, while scoring a pair of runs. Freshman Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/ Fountain Valley) tallied her first two collegiate RBI.

Wagner recorded a season-high 14 hits in the win, and tied its season best with seven runs.

Sophomore Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ/ Sandra Day O'Connor) pitched 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, picking up her second win of the season.

Saint Peter's jumped ahead with three first inning runs before Beasley got the Seahawks on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Beasley lined a 3-2, two-out pitch into right field for an RBI single, plating junior Taylor Rauscher (Peoria, AZ/ Sunrise Mountain) to make it 3-1.

The Peacocks grabbed a run back in the top of the second before the Seahawks tied the game in a wild bottom of the second. Senior Brittany Huss (Anthem, AZ/ Boulder Creek) worked a walk to open the inning, and advanced to second on a single by sophomore Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/ Lynnwood), setting up a first and second, no out situation.

Nicoletti followed with an RBI single, scoring Huss and making it 4-2. Nicoletti then stole second before Bott brought home Parker on a sacrifice fly, cutting it to 4-3.

Saint Peter's looked to escape the second inning with the lead, but some heads-up baserunning by Nicoletti proved otherwise. After a squeeze attempt went awry, the ball skipped to the backstop but was recovered quickly, pinning the Seahawk senior in a rundown. Nicoletti averted the tag, diving into home plate for what at the time was the game-tying run.

The Seahawks jumped ahead an inning later, putting up another crooked number. With one out, Parker was hit by a pitch, and advanced on a Nicoletti single. Bott then lined a double down the left field line, scoring Parker and advancing Nicoletti to third. Rauscher then came to the plate and drove in Nicoletti on an RBI single to make it 6-4.

Wagner picked up an insurance run in the fifth, capitalizing a pair of beneficial bounces. With two outs in the frame, sophomore Jessica Albarran (Corona, CA/ Eleanor Roosevelt) reached on an error, and advanced on a single by junior Kristen Matteoni (Reno, NV/ Galena). Beasley then blooped a ball in between the second baseman and center fielder, scoring Albarran for a 7-4 lead.

Wagner returns to action Wednesday at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL. The Seahawks face Youngstown State at 9:00 am before taking on Utah Valley after the completion of the first game.
