Wagner Defeats Mount St. Mary's 156-94

The Wagner women's swimming & diving team defeated Mount St. Mary's Saturday afternoon, defeating The Mount 156-94 to improve to an overall record of 7-1.

The Seahawks began the day with a 1-2 finish in the 200 Medley relay, with the team of Anu Nihipali, Katja Claesson, Meredith Ketchmark and Corinne Rondina earning gold, while Meghan Mendez, Kelsey Thomas, Samantha Sides, and Sarah Menendez took silver.

Freshman Grace Baird finished second in the 1500 freestyle event, as teammates Maggie Shaw and Kristiana Kalibat earned third and fourth, respectively. Menendez and Alexandra Cooney notched a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle, with junior Morgan Stoner finishing fourth in the event.

Nihipali continued to dominate the 100 backstroke event, earning first place, while teammates Kaitlin Murtha and Mendez tallied points with second and fourth-place finishes. The Seahawks tabbed a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 breaststroke behind Thomas, Claesson, and senior co-captain Kristen Lee.

Sophomore Amanda Lucia earned gold in the 200 butterfly event, while Erin Malone finished third. Nihipali edged The Mount's Mollie Walsh by .20 of a second to finish in first place in the 50 freestyle, and Rondina and Sides finished in third and fourth place.

Co-captain Ketchmark earned the top spot in the 100 freestyle, with Menendez and Rondina capturing third and fourth. Murtha and Kalibat combined for a 1-2 finish in the 200 backstroke, while Thomas and Claesson earned first and second in the 200 breaststroke. Wagner earned yet another 1-2-3 finish in the 400 freestyle behind Lucia, Cooney, and Baird.

The Green & White return to the pool on Saturday, November 9th, when they travel to Loundonville, NY to face the Saints of Siena College. The meet is set for a 2:00 p.m. start.
