Riverdale, NY – The swim meet scheduled between Wagner and Manhattan College for Friday, October 11th, at Manhattan has been postponed due to facility issues. The Green & White will still host UVM on Saturday, October 12th. That meet is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
The Seahawks started the 2013-2014 season with a bang, breaking five pool records and one school record in their opener against LIU Post (10/5). Freshman
Anu Nihipali made a splash in her individual event debut, finishing the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 56.41, crushing the previous pool record by 2.49 seconds, effectively breaking the school record by about one second. Nihipali also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle before taking home the gold in the 200-yard individual medley (IM).
Following in her teammate's record-breaking footsteps, fellow freshman
Katja Claesson took gold in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:07.25, breaking the previous record of 1:07.75 in the process. Senior
Meredith Ketchmark won the 100-yard freestyle, breaking the previous record set in the event by .02 of a second with a time of 53.10.
In the final event, the assembly of
Sarah Menendez,
Samantha Sides,
Corinne Rondina, and Ketchmark controlled the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in with a 1:38.47. With that time, Wagner broke their fifth record of the day by an assertive 1.26 seconds.
