Zaccariello Leads Wagner At Monmouth University XC Kick-Off

Junior Daniel Zaccariello (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph By The Sea) took second in 19:30.8 at the 6K Monmouth University XC Kick-Off, while narrowly missing out on his first collegiate victory. Albany's James Chris Buchanan outdistanced the field of 92 runners with a time of 19:28.6, as the Great Danes won the Division I portion of the meet with 49 points. Monmouth was second with 93 points, followed by Wagner (94), St. Francis (NY) (121) and Seton Hall (159).

Second-year harrier James Naglieri (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) had a solid start to his sophomore campaign, finishing sixth, including fourth among D-1 runners, in 19:46.8. Finishing right behind Naglieri was classmate and Hofstra transfer Jacob Malakoff (Tasmania, Australia / Friends / Hofstra) in ninth place, including sixth among D-1 runners, with a time of 19:47.7 in his Green & White debut.

Sophomore Tim Mendez (West Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) was the fourth Seahawk finisher, crossing the line 33rd (26th among D-1 runners) in 20:46.6.

Rounding out the Green & White scorers was junior Michael Baio (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph By The Sea) in 84th (67th among D-1 runners), with a mark of 22:39.0.

"It was a good first meet, and hopefully we build on it," said head coach Joe Stasi.

Wagner returns to action on Saturday, September 8 when the Seahawks participate in the 8K Bryant Invitational.
