Box Score
Staten Island, NY – Senior
Julie Vigliotti (Staten Island, NY/ Staten Island Academy) and junior
Jackie Nicholas (Rockville Centre, NY/ South Side) each scored two goals, while senior
Monica Zurich (Montvale, NJ/ Pascack Hills) added another as Wagner defeated Saint Peter's by a 5-2 score on Monday afternoon. The Seahawks improve to 1-3 on the year with the win, while the Peacocks fall to 1-3.
Vigliotti and Nicholas each recorded five points (2 goals, 1 assist apiece) on the afternoon as the Green & White's five-goal outburst was a season-high. The five markers also matched the most for a Wagner squad since the Seahawks netted seven against Delaware State on September 6, 2009.
Wagner got on the board early, opening the scoring in the ninth minute. Zurich corralled a pass from Nicholas from 25 yards out, drilling the ball into the back of the net to make the score 1-0. Zurich's goal was the fifth of her career, and the only scoring in the first half.
Saint Peter's rallied with a pair of goals shortly after halftime in taking its first lead of the contest at 2-1. Jamie Lisanti scored twice, with the first coming in the 47th minute, before plating the go-ahead tally just eight minutes later.
From there, the game would be dominated by the Seahawks. In the 59th minute, freshman
Johanna Konrad (Volkach, Germany/ LSH) made a sliding play on a ball in the corner, centering it for Vigliotti to tie the game. The assist was the first of Konrad's career.
The Seahawks then jumped in front for good at 3-2 in the 66th minute, as senior
Alyssa Grecco (Staten Island, NY/ Staten Island Academy) found Nicholas for eventual game-winning goal. Just over a minute later, Nicholas again found the back of the net with her third goal of the year. This time Nicholas took a pass from Vigliotti and drove it home for a 4-2 lead.
In the 76th minute, Vigliotti capped the scoring with her second goal of the afternoon, capitalizing on the rebound of her initial shot, while sealing the final 5-2 margin.
Sophomore
Lisa Capelli (Manalapan, NJ/ Red Bank Catholic) picked up her first collegiate win in goal, stopping five Saint Peter's shots. Caitlin Hoffer made six saves in the loss.
The Seahawks return to action on Sunday, Sep. 2, when the Green & White travel to Connecticut to play at Fairfield. The game is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
