Daytona Beach, FL – The Wagner College women's golf team concluded its 2011-2012 season this weekend with an eighth place team finish at the Northeast Conference Championship Tournament held at the LPGA International Champions Course in Daytona Beach, FL.
The Seahawks were led by captain
Ellen Huffman (Lima, OH / Lima Central Catholic) who, coming off her first collegiate tournament victory 10 days prior, posted three rounds of 76-83-74, to finish plus-17 at the end of the event, giving the sophomore another top-10 finish.
Just trailing Huffman, junior
Miko Page (Brooklyn, NY / Edward R Murrow) and freshman
Kathryn Jimerson (El Paso, TX / Coronado) placed 18
th and 21
st, respectively, with Page carding a plus-22 (83-78-77) and Jimerson with a plus-26 (80-79-83).
"Ellen played two of the best rounds in the entire tournament on Friday and Sunday with her rounds of 76 and 74,” said head coach
Christopher Fourman. “Miko also had two of the better rounds with her Saturday 78 and Sunday 77, especially considering her double bogey on 18 on Saturday and double bogey on her 17th hole on Sunday. Kathryn had a great first NEC Championship. When you get thrown into the competitive environment of conference championship for the first time there is a learning curve and Kathryn showed a tremendous amount of poise to come in with three rounds around 80 and finish just a few shots back of Miko. All three of these girls come back for us next year and we are going to get some more scores closer to 80 to support them."
Senior
Kaitlin Osmundsen (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) and junior
Keri Muse (Sterling, VA / Dominion) rounded out the five-member travel squad for the Green & White, as Osmundsen finished the three-round event with scores of 86-91-94, while Muse came in with rounds of 89-94-90.
Wagner's four-member team score of 980 placed them in the eighth spot at the end of the tournament, as the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn took the team title with a 919.
