Game Two Box Score

Teaneck, NJ –
The Wagner College softball team dropped the first two Northeast Conference decisions of the weekend today, falling to Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-6 and 7-8. The Seahawks slide to 15-33 with the two losses and 4-14 in the NEC. With the wins, FDU improves to 30-18 and 7-11 in the league.

In game one, Wagner picked up its only runs on three solo homeruns, as senior Vanessa Lenart (Fontana, CA / Henry J. Kaiser HS), and juniors Brittany Huss (Anthem, AZ / Boulder Creek), and Carley Nicoletti (Plainville, NY / C.W. Baker) each belted solo shots.

Wagner pitchers Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) and Olivia Zwick (Surrey, Canada / Earl Marriot) combined for the seven-inning loss, allowing six runs on nine hits, teaming up for two strikeouts.

The Knights offense picked up runs throughout the game, working their way into a four-run lead before Nicoletti's homer in the top of the sixth, working the game into a 6-3 FDU lead.

Wagner's bats came alive late in the matinee game, picking up five runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning, taking advantage of three FDU errors, to jump to a 6-1 lead.

The Knights fought right back in their half of the sixth inning, combining for four runs on four hits and one Wagner error, to come within one run, 6-5.

The Seahawks picked up their seventh run of the game on a Kristen Matteoni (Reno, NV / Galena) solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning, blasting her team-high sixth homer of the year.

Wagner couldn't hold on to its two-run lead, as the Knights jumped on Betz for three runs on four hits, to jump ahead and seal the one-run victory on a two-run single.

The Seahawks will wrap up their NEC schedule tomorrow, travelling to Mount St. Mary's for a two-game set against the Mountaineers beginning at noon.
