Petrik’s Four Goals, Three Assists Carry Women’s Lacrosse Past Saint Francis (PA) 13-9 In Season Finale

Senior midfielder Lauren Petrik (Baldwinsville, NY/ Westhill) ended her career with a bang, tallying seven points on four goals and three assists, in addition to amassing five draw controls and three caused turnovers, senior attacker Carolyn Clark (Syracuse,, NY/ Westhill) also sank four goals along with one assist while freshman attacker Jessica Mills (Vernon Township, NJ/ Vernon) dished out a career-high four assists to carry Wagner past Saint Francis (PA) 13-9.

With the victory, the Seahawks finish with a final record of 7-10, 2-7 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Red Flash, which finished 3-14, 1-8 in league, were led by Catherine Helming's five goals.

Saint Francis (PA) got out to a quick 2-0 lead before Wagner surged back with four unanswered goals, the first two out of the stick of Petrik and the next two by Clark. After Helming briefly stopped the Red Flash bleeding with a goal at the 3:08 mark of the first half to make it 4-3, the Seahawks closed the half with a goal by sophomore attacker Sam Morin (Rockville Centre, NY/ South Shore) at 1:20 off a Petrik assist, followed by a Clark tally with 22 seconds to go in the half, again off a Petrik assist, as Wagner took 6-3 lead into halftime.

The Seahawks continued their hot shooting at the outset of the second half, reeling off five consecutive goals in a 7:34 span, two by Petrik and two by Morin, to complete a 7-0 run that bridged the halves, providing Wagner with a sizeable 11-3 lead with 22:26 left to play. After the teams split the next two goals, Saint Francis (PA) went on a 3-0 scoring run, capped by a Danielle Conwell goal at 8:56 that drew the Red Flash to within 12-7.

Clark pushed the lead back to six goals at 13-7 with an unassisted goal with 4:39 remaining. That's the way the score stood until Saint Francis (PA) knocked in a pair of goals in the final 35 seconds to fashion the final score at 13-9.

In addition to the four-goal games by Petrik and Clark, Morin finished with three goals, junior attacker Erika Bulken (Baldwinsville, NY/ C.W. Baker) had one goal and two assists while sophomore midfielder Michela Galante (Maplewood, NJ/ Columbia) added one goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Roach (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) made four saves while playing the game's first 51 minutes before freshman Shannon Sweeney (Madison Township, NJ/ Madison) came on to record two saves in final nine minutes of the game.

Wagner out-shot the Red Flash 30-21, held a slight 24-23 edge in ground balls while winning 14-of-24 draw controls.
