Brooklyn Heights, NY – The Wagner College water polo team recorded its third shutout in team history with an 18-0 victory over the Keydets of the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). With the win, the Seahawks remain undefeated in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with a record of 5-0.
Seeing goals from 12 different Seahawks including two hat-tricks from senior
Lauren French (Colmar, PA / North Penn) and sophomore
Sidney Hoshko (Coronado, CA / Coronado), Wagner started off with an early 9-0 lead at the end of the first period.
A minute into the start of the game, sophomore
Stacy McGregor (Sinking Spring, PA / Wilson) found the back of the VMI net to initiate Wagner's scoring run. At the 5:52 mark, freshman
Rachel Burns (Greenlane, Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan School for Girls) knocked one in. Less than 30 seconds later, French sent her first of three into the net.
Forty seconds after French's goal, fellow seniors
Becca Hannings (Lansdale, PA / North Penn) and
Molly Robinson (Lansdale, PA / North Penn) scored within 30 seconds of each other to send the Seahawks up 5-0.
Another 32 seconds later, French hit her second goal of the game followed shortly with a goal from senior
Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA / Wilson).
With 2:22 remaining in the first quarter, freshman
Michelle Greenough (Davis, CA / Davis) and McGregor each notched on another point as Wagner controlled the game 9-0.
The second quarter saw no scoring action until the 4:26 mark when Beck sent her second goal of the game past the VMI defense. A minute later, sophomore
Ashton Cline (Carlisle, PA / Cumberland Valley) sent the Seahawks up 11-0.
With 2:35 left in first half play, Hoshko saw her first of three goals hit the back of the VMI net as junior
Katie Jordan (Westlake Village, CA / Agoura) followed suit 30 seconds later.
Leading 13-0 at the break, the Seahawks knocked in two more goals during third period play with one each from French and Hoshko.
The final eight minutes rounded out the Seahawk scoring trend as Hoshko hit her third goal of the game 1:20 into fourth quarter play. Sophomore
Kaylee Ginnane (Tampa, FL / Coronado, CA) placed one between the pipes 2 minutes later as freshman
Madeleine Brown (Sacramento, CA / Rio Americano) found the back of the net with 28 seconds left in the game to fashion the score at 18-0.

Laura Karbach (Abington, PA / Germantown Academy) recorded four saves and senior
Lauren Lovallo (Old Greenwich, CT / Greenwich) registered two.
The Seahawks return to Grymes Hill tomorrow where they will face the Gaels of Iona at 10:30 AM and the Saints of Siena at 4:30 PM. Wagner will be honoring its five seniors in a Senior Day celebration prior to the second game.
