Box Score / Box Score (PDF)

Staten Island, NY -
Quinnipiac defeated Wagner 6-2 to salvage a split of today's doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Seahawks, who won game one 7-1, fall to 5-12 and 2-1 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Bobcats improve to 2-10 and 1-2 in the league.

Righty Spencer Kane (1-2) was the story of the game for QU, striking out six while yielding two unearned runs on two hits and two walks in a complete game 7.0-inning effort.

The Green & White struck first with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning. Senior Tommy Higgins (Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) reached via an error, advancing to second on the play. He then scored on junior Jayson Keel's (Starkville, MS / Starkville / Holmes CC) sacrifice bunt, when Kane threw the ball wide of the third baseman. Later in the frame, junior Nick Alfano (Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep) then plated Keel on a safety squeeze bunt to give Wagner a 2-0 lead.

With Wagner still up 2-0 in the top of the fifth inning, Quinnipiac struck for six runs on six hits while sending 11 batters to plate in assuming its first lead of the series at 6-2.

The Seahawks could only manage two more baserunners the rest of the way as Kane struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth en route to retiring eight of the last nine batters he faced.

Graduate student Bill Murphy (Cranford, NJ / Roselle Catholic / Rutgers) recorded one of the two Wagner hits while extending his hitting streak to nine games. Freshman Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) notched the only other Seahawk hit in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Junior RHP Dakota Dvorak (Pompano Beach, FL / North Broward Prep) fell to 0-4 in defeat, yielding three runs on five hits over 4.1 innings.

Kyle Nisson paced a 13-hit Bobcat attack, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

The teams will conclude their four-game series with a single nine-inning game tomorrow at 1:00 pm. As always, fans can follow along via live stats by clicking HERE or via the Wagner Athletic Page on Twitter (@wagnerathletics) by clicking HERE.
