Softball Drops A Pair On Day Two Of Rebel Games

Game One - Nebraska - Omaha
Game Two - Lafayette

Kissimmee, FL –
The Seahawks softball team dropped a pair of games on day two of the 2012 Rebel Spring Games, losing to the University of Nebraska – Omaha, 10-2 in five innings, before falling to the Leopards of Lafayette, 6-1.

The second day losses move the Green & White to 1-13 on the year, having dropped their last four. The Mavs snapped a two-game losing skid with their five-inning win, improving to 5-8, while Lafayette picks up its first win of the year, moving to 1-4.

Wagner began the day with a bang, as sophomore Kristen Matteoni (Reno, NV / Galena) led off the game blasting her first homerun of the season, and her team-high 13th hit of the year, to give the Seahawks the early 1-0 lead.

The Mavs came right back and put up run of their own in the bottom of the first inning, taking sophomore Ashley Rollins (Fairfax, VA / Fairfax) for five runs on three hits, including a three-run homer, putting the Green & White down 5-1 after the first inning.

The two teams went hitless in the second inning before Wagner struck again on a Brittany Huss (Anthem, AZ / Boulder Creek) double to right center field that scored Taylor Rauscher (Peoria, AZ / Sunrise Mountain) from first.

Rauscher's team-high third run of the year brought the Seahawks to within three runs, but the Mavs pulled away in the bottom of the fifth inning, recording another five run inning – this time of junior Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) – to activate the seven-run mercy rule and give Nebraska - Omaha the, 10-2, victory.

Rollins was credited with the loss in game one, going innings and giving up five runs on three hits. Nebraska – Omaha's Kat Barrow got the win for the Mavs throwing a five-inning complete game, allowing just two runs on four hits.

The Seahawks, who have played nine games in the last five days, will have a much needed day off from competition before kicking back up on Thursday, March 15, when they Green & White play Cleveland State at 9:00 a.m. and the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay at 11:00 a.m.
