Softball Blanked By College Of Charleston, 4-0

Box Score

Charleston, SC –
College of Charleston's pitcher Stephanie Saylors had a career day against the Seahawks on Sunday, throwing a seven-inning perfect game, allowing no hits, no walks, and striking out four en route to a 4-0 win.

With the loss, Wagner remains winless on the year, falling to 0-5 in their season opening tournament at the University of Charleston. The win marks the Cougars seventh victory of the year, improving to 7-3.

Charleston's offense began chipping away at the Seahawks in the first inning, as the home team scored one run in each of the first four innings, recording four runs on nine hits off freshman pitcher Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ / Sandra Day O'Connor). After the Cougars tallied their fourth run, junior Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) came in to relieve Bedker, and gave up just one hit in her three innings of work.

Wagner's offense couldn't find any answers to Saylors, as the junior hurler retired every batter she faced, striking out four and getting 10 to fly out and seven to ground out. Charleston held on to its four-run lead, snapping a two-game losing streak.

The Seahawks will have the next 12 days off before travelling down to Tampa, FL, for the start of a 17-game Sunshine State stretch, beginning on March 9, against Western Michigan.
