Hawaii Defeats Wagner In Series Finale

Hawaii erupted for seven runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 19-3 victory over Wagner in the series finale at Les Murakami Stadium. The Rainbows swept the five-game series while improving to 6-3.

The Green & White were extremely competitive in its first series of the year, losing three of the five games by four runs or less.

The Seahawks notched six hits and were led by sophomore Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Freedom / Ellsworth CC (IA), who was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate while being hit by a pitch and laying down a successful sacrifice bunt.

Also recording hits for the Green & White were Nick Alfano (Jr., Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep),  Jason Gordon (Fr., Baltimore, MD / Archbishop Curley), Tommy Higgins (Sr., Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) and Dan Wasilick (Fr., Toms Rivers, NJ / Toms Rivers East).

Kaeo Aliviado (4-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Breland Almadova (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 2 runs) led the way for Hawaii, which recorded 13 hits on the afternoon.

Picking up the win was RHP Corey MacDonald (1-0), who struck out one while yielding one run on three hits over 5.0 innings. Sophomore RHP Nick Pavia (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph By The Sea) (0-1) allowed four earned runs in taking the loss.

Wagner returns to action on Friday, March 2 at 4:00 pm with the first of four games at defending Atlantic 10 Champion Charlotte.
