Wagner Finishes Second At Blue Devil Invitational

New Britain, CT – The Wagner College women's swimming & diving team wrapped up the 2012 Blue Devil Invitational on Sunday with a second-place finish, recording 1636.5 points during the three-day event. Vermont took home first place with 1912 points, while host Central Connecticut tallied 1120.5 and Sacred Heart, who joined the invitational for the second day, posted a score of 270.

Freshman Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/ Easthampton) set a pool record in the preliminary stage of the 200 fly, and then proceeded to better her own mark in the finals, winning the event in 2:04.01. Fellow Seahawk Tatum Colitz (Wyomissing, PA/ Wilson) finished second (2:07.01).

Three-time-defending NEC Diver of the Week Erica Curry (Fountain Valley, CA/ Fountain Valley) took home first on the 3-meter board, posting a score of 217.35.

Freshman Kara Lacoste (Chicopee, MA/ Chicopee Comprehensive) finished second in the 200 back (2:04.08). In the preliminaries, Lacoste set a school record with her time of 2:03.58. Lacoste also took second in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.19), with sophomore Kelsey Thomas (Hammonton, NJ/ Holy Spirit) finishing fifth (2:28.36).

The Seahawks took second and third in the 100 free, with junior Sarah Menendez (Land O' Lakes, FL/ Wharton) finishing second (52.29), and junior Meredith Ketchmark (Plainsboro, NJ/ West Windsor-Plainsboro) taking third (53.09).
Junior Alexandra Cooney (Port Jervis, NY/ Minisink Valley) took second in the 1650 (17:21.32), with freshman Maggie Shaw (Chantilly, VA) coming in fourth (17:38.91).

Wagner had two of the top five in the 400 free relay, as the group of Menendez, Ketchmark, Cooney and Colitz placed second (3:31.08), and the team of sophomore Lynn Tay (Elk Grove, CA/ Bradshaw Christian), Shaw, freshman Corinne Rondina (Staten Island, NY/ Notre Dame Academy) and sophomore Samantha Sides (Cherry Hill, NJ/ Cherry Hill East) finished fifth (3:39.34).

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, when Wagner travels to the Ocean State for a meet against Rhode Island on the school's Kingston campus.
