Brookville, NY - The Wagner College swimming team was defeated by LIU Post, 155-104, on Saturday in the team's 2012-2013 opener. Three Seahawks placed first in an event on the afternoon, while eight second-place finishes were nabbed.

Junior Alexandra Cooney (Port Jervis, NY/ Minisink Valley) took first in two events on the day. In the 1000 freestyle, Cooney won in a time of 10:47.85. She also took the 500 freestyle, as her time of 5:16.18 narrowly edged freshman teammate Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/ Easthampton), who finished in a time of 5:18.68.

Freshman Kara Lacoste (Chicopee, MA/ Chicopee Comprehensive) captured the other first-place finish of the day, finishing the 200 IM in a time of 2:14.30. Lacoste finished second in the 100 breaststroke, as her time of 1:09.89 left her just shy of winning two events in her collegiate debut.

Wagner returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 13, when the Green & White travel to Burlington, VT to face Vermont.
