New Rochelle, NY - The Wagner College swimming & diving team defeated all three opponents - St. Francis (NY), Sacred Heart, and host Iona - in a quad meet on Saturday.
The Seahawks defeated St. Francis (NY) by a score of 185-43, Sacred Heart by a margin of 179-51, and Iona by a mark of 143-97.
Two-time defending NEC Diver of the Week
Erica Curry (Fountain Valley, CA/ Fountain Valley) impressed again, winning on the 3-meter board with a score of 200.80. Curry finished second on the 1-meter board, recording a score of 177.05.
The freestyle events were dominated by the Green & White. In the 200, junior
Sarah Menendez (Land O' Lakes, FL/ Wharton) won the event in a time of 1:59.01. She was followed by junior
Meredith Ketchmark (Plainsboro, NJ/ West Windsor-Plainsboro), who finished second in 2:00.11.
In the 500, junior
Alexandra Cooney (Port Jervis, NY/ Minisink Valley) posted a winning time of 5:15.95. Menendez placed second in 5:19.12. Junior
Kristiana Kalibat (Princeton, NJ/ Princeton) finished third in 5:24.13, and senior
Dana Samuel (Rivonia, South Africa/ Crawford College) finished fourth in a time of 5:24.54.
Cooney also took first in the 1000, finishing in a time of 10:54.10. Kalibat finished second in 10:57.95, with freshman
Maggie Shaw (Chantilly, VA) placing third in 11:02.45.
Like the two freestyle events, the 200 backstroke was also controlled by the Seahawks, with Wagner swimmers taking the top four spots. Freshman
Kaitlin Murtha (New Fairfield, CT/ New Fairfield) captured the win in a time of 2:11.87. Sophomore
Morgan Stoner (Greensburg, PA/ Hempsfield Area) finished second, with a time of 2:14.11. Two Seahawk freshmen followed Murtha and Stoner, as
Erin Malone (Sewell, NJ/ Washington Township) and
Meghan Mendez (Export, PA/ PA Cyber) finished third and fourth, respectively. Malone posted a time of 2:14.96, while Mendez finished in 2:15.85.
One day after winning the 200 backstroke at Rutgers, freshman
Kara Lacoste (Chicopee, MA/ Chicopee Comprehensive) took two individual events on the day. Lacoste won the 200 breaststroke, recording a time of 2:28.39, and captured the 200 IM in 2:11.93.
Lacoste was also a part of the Seahawks' winning 400 medley relay team, along with junior
Kelsey Thomas (Hammonton, NJ/ Holy Spirit), freshman
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/ Easthampton), and Ketchmark. The team finished in 4:04.80.
