Burlington, VT – The Wagner College women's swimming & diving team fell to Vermont, 177-121, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 0-2 on the year in dual meets.
Three freshmen captured the first event win of their collegiate careers in Saturday's meet as
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/ Easthampton) took two events, while
Erin Malone (Sewell, NJ/ Washington Township) and
Erica Curry (Fountain Valley, CA/ Fountain Valley) each took a first-place finish.
Lucia won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:09.58 and the 100 butterfly in 1:00.06, and was one of two competitors in the meet to finish first in multiple individual events. Malone won the 100 backstroke in 59.72, and Curry took first on the three-meter board, posting a score of 202.12. Curry was narrowly edge on the one-meter board, recording a mark of 205.05.
Junior
Alexandra Cooney (Port Jervis, NY/ Minisink Valley) captured the 500 freestyle for the second consecutive week, as her time of 5:16.07 eclipsed her time of a week ago by 0.11 seconds. Cooney was also part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team, as she was joined by junior
Sarah Menendez (Land O'Lakes, FL/ Wharton), freshman
Corinne Rondina (Staten Island, NY/ Staten Island Academy), and sophomore
Sam Sides (Cherry Hill, NJ/ Cherry Hill East) on the winning team.
Wagner returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 20, as the Seahawk swimmers travels to the Ocean State to face Bryant, while the diving team goes to New Britain, CT to compete at Central Connecticut.
