Hamden, CT -
All nine Wagner regulars hit safely while senior Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown) allowed just one earned run over 8.0 strong innings while leading the Green & White to a decisive 7-3 victory over Quinnipiac in the second game of a doubleheader between the teams at the QU Baseball Field.

The Seahawks, who won both ends of today's doubleheader, claim their first Northeast Conference (NEC) series of the year by a 3-1 count over the Bobcats (14-22; 10-14 NEC) while improving to 13-26 and 11-13 in the NEC.

Wagner jumped in front with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. With two outs, senior Jack Rice (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata) worked the count full before drawing a walk. Senior Joe Conforti (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) followed with a single to center field while moving Rice to third. Junior Eddie Brown (Edison, NJ / St. Joseph's (Metuchen)) followed with an infield single to the third baseman, beating his throw by a step while plating Rice for the game's first run. Senior Seth Boyd (Perth Amboy, NJ / Perth Amboy) followed with a RBI single up the middle, chasing home Conforti.

Senior Kevin McDonnell (Bristol, CT / Avon Old Farms) opened up the third inning with this double. After moving to third on a ground out, he scored on this Nick Alfano (So., Pompano Beach, FL / North Broward Prep) single, extending the lead to 3-0.

The Seahawks kept up the pressure in the top of the fourth inning adding another tally. Rice scored his second run of the game after leading off the frame with this solid base hit on a Boyd sacrifice fly, pushing the lead out to 4-0.

On the mound, Lucas was almost flawless retiring the first six hitters he faced en route to facing the minimum 12 batters over the first four innings as the hard-throwing righty was aided by a pair of double plays.

Quinnipiac notched its first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning before scoring its first run one inning later on a Zak Palmer sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

Wagner immediately got that run back in the top of the seventh inning. Brown led off with this single up the middle before stealing second. Following a Boyd walk, sophomore Tommy Higgins (Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) moved the pair to second-and-third with a successful sacrifice bunt. McDonnell then plated Brown with a sacrifice fly while extending the lead back out to four at 5-1.

The Seahawks added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning as the Green & White loaded the bases up with no outs on an infield single by Alfano and bunt hits from sophomore Gaby Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico / Perkiomen (PA)) and Rice. Conforti made it 6-1 with a RBI walk before Brown extended the lead out to 7-1 with a sacrifice fly.

The Bobcats plated a pair of unearned runs in the bottom part of the frame before Lucas capped his outstanding performance with a strikeout of Chris Migani while stranding a pair of runners.

For the game, Lucas (2-5) struck out four while yielding three runs, one earned, on five hits and a pair of walks over a career-best 8.0 innings.

Sophomore RHP Dakota Dvorak (Pompano Beach, FL / North Broward Prep) finished off Quinnipiac by hurling a scoreless ninth while clinching the first Wagner series victory of the conference season.

Brown led a 13-hit parade, going 3-for-4 with two RBI while Alfano and Rice each recorded multiple-hits.

Quinnipiac RHP George Dummar (3-5) suffered the loss, yielding five runs on eight hits and five walks over 7.0 innings. Ben Farina was the only multiple-hit performer for the Bobcats in the doubleheader, going 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI.
