Hamden, CT -
Wagner plated two runs in the top of the 11th inning in posting a thrilling come-from-behind 8-6 victory over Quinnipiac in the first game of a Northeast Conference (NEC) doubleheader at the QU Baseball Field.

With the victory, the Seahawks snap their seven-game losing streak while improving to 11-25 and 9-12 in the NEC as the Bobcats fall to 13-20 and 9-12 in the league with their eighth straight loss.

Quinnipiac took the early lead in the first inning with a pair of runs.

Wagner matched the Bobcats with a pair of runs of their own in the top of the third inning. Senior Jack Rice (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata) led off the frame with this bunt single between the pitcher's mound and first base before moving to second on a throwing error by the second baseman. Following a strikeout, classmate Joe Conforti (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) laced this single to center field, plating Rice. On the throw home, Conforti took second before moving to third on a ground out. Junior Tommy Higgins (Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) picked up Conforti with this two-out, two-strike single up the middle, tying the game up at 2-2.

Chris Migani reclaimed the lead for Quinnipiac in the top of the third inning with a solo home run to deep right center. Later in the frame, Nick Civale pushed the lead out to 4-2 with a RBI single through the right side, plating Kyle Nisson.

The Bobcats extended the lead out to 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a Ben Farina RBI single.

Wagner rallied to cut the deficit to 5-4 in the top of the sixth inning on the strength of a pair of unearned runs. With two outs and the bases loaded, Rice collected his second hit of the game with a line-drive single to right field, plating senior Kevin McDonnell (Bristol, CT / Avon Old Farms) and classmate Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown).

Migani got one of those runs back in the bottom part of the frame with another solo home run to right field, pushing the lead out to 6-4.

The Seahawks again sliced the deficit to one in the top of the seventh inning when Boyd singled to right field, plating sophomore Nick Alfano (Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep), who recorded a lead-off double.

Wagner tied the game up one inning later in the top of the eighth. Junior Hayden Hunter (Santa Monica, CA / Notre Dame) led off with a double to right center before moving to third on a ground out. Hunter would come around to tie the game up at 6-6 on an Ian Miller (Downington, PA / Bishop Shanahan) RBI ground out against a drawn in infield.

The Seahawks had a chance to win it in the top of the 10th inning but left the bases loaded. Quinnipiac then threatened in the bottom part of the frame when Migani's bid for a third home run fell just short at the warning track in left field.

Wagner finally broke through for its first lead of the game in the top of the 11th inning. Boyd got on board with an infield chopper back to the pitcher for his third hit of the game. Higgins then reached on an error as Boyd moved to second. McDonnell followed with a bunt single while moving Boyd and Higgins to second-and-third. Lucas gave the Seahawks a 7-6 lead with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Boyd. Hunter added an insurance run with a RBI single to left field, plating Higgins while pushing the lead out to 8-6.

Sophomore RHP Dakota Dvorak (Pompano Beach, FL / North Broward Prep) entered in the bottom of the 11th and fired a scoreless inning for his first save of the year.

Classmate RHP Christian Rautenstrauch (Charlotte, NC / Providence Day) improved to 2-1 on the year with the win, hurling 5.0 innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen.

Wagner notched 16 hits on the day as four different players recorded at least three hits. Boyd went 3-for-4 with two walks in six plate appearances while garnering his team-best 13th multi-hit game of the year. Hunter finished up 3-for-5 with a double, run and RBI. McDonnell was 3-for-6 with a run while Rice went 3-for-6 with two RBI and a run.

The Seahawks went 6-for-20 (.300) with runners in scoring position while limiting the Bobcats to a 3-for-12 performance (.250) in similar situations while taking advantage of seven Quinnipiac errors that led to four unearned runs.

Quinnipiac, which recorded 15 hits in the game, was led by Migani, who went 4-for-5 with two solo home runs.

Ryan Walsh (0-3) suffered the loss, yielding one run on five hits over 1.1 innings.
