Seahawks Drop Final Game Of USF Invitational, 11-0, To CMU

Box Score

Clearwater, FL –
Central Michigan's Kari Seddon threw seven innings of one-hit ball against the Seahawks en route to an 11-0 win in the final day of the University of South Florida Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, FL.

After each team went scoreless in the first two innings, accumulating only one hit between the two, Central Michigan made the first mark. A leadoff single by Brogan Darwin in the top of the third set the table for a four-run inning for the Chippewas that included two bunt singles and a two-out, three-run homerun by Amanda Patrick off Wagner's sophomore right-hander Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA).

While Central Michigan's Seddon remained perfect through three, the Chippewas bats stayed hot, as Molly Coldren led off the top of the fourth with a solo shot over the left-center field wall, extending the visitors lead to 4-0. Central flirted with more runs later in the inning, having the bases loaded and two outs, but Betz got Patrick to fly out to Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY) in left field to keep the score at 5-0.

Seddon continued to shut down the Seahawks offense, throwing six no-hit innings, allowing just a walk to freshman Taylor Rauscher (Peoria, AZ) in the bottom of the fourth and hitting Vanessa Lenart (Fontana, CA) in the sixth.

Heading into the top of the seventh down 5-0, head coach Glen Payne elected to give freshman Ashley Rollins (Fairfax, VA) a shot in the circle. A lead-off single and a stolen base put Lauren Bowman in scoring position before being knocked home on a Brittini Merchant single to left field, widening the Chippewas lead to 6-0.

A couple of walks and wild pitches, combined with five Central hits gave the Chippewas plenty of ammunition for five-hit, six-run, seventh inning, bringing the score to 11-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

Olsen, who leads the team in batting average (.517), ruined Seddon's no-hitter leading off the inning with a shot over the third baseman's head for the Seahawks first hit of the day. Central eased through the next three Wagner hitters to seal the 11-0 victory.

The loss keeps the Seahawks winless on their season-opening spring break trip, going 0-5 at the South Florida Invitational. The win improves Central Michigan to 5-6 on the early season.

Wagner now travels East to Orlando, FL, to compete in the Rebel Games where they will play 10 games in five dasy to conclude the trip. The Green & White's first game will take place tomorrow against Loyola beginning at 9:00 am.
