BOX SCORE

Jacksonville, FL -
In a game that featured a combined seven errors, Jacksonville defeated Wagner 7-3 in the first game of a doubleheader between the teams. The Dolphins improve to 8-3 with the win while the Seahawks fall to 1-5.

Jacksonville, which outhit the Green & White 10-5, struck first for a run in the top of the first inning when Taylor Ratliff walked before stealing and second and third. He then came around to score when Daniel Gulbranson reached on an error.

Wagner got that run back in the top of the third inning. Senior Jack Rice (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata) doubled to left center before moving to third on Hayden Hunter's (Santa Monica, CA / Notre Dame Academy) sacrifice bunt. Rice then came around to score on a balk, tying the score up at 1-

The Dolphins went ahead 2-1 in the bottom part of the frame with an unearned run. Ratliff led off with a double before advancing to third on an error and would come around to score on Jonathan Murphy's RBI single through the left side. The damage could have been worse though but junior RHP Mark Holmes (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) evaded a first-and-third, no out situation by coaxing a strikeout and an inning-ending double play.

Jacksonville added to the lead with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on Adam Brett Walker's two-run home run.

The Dolphins extended the lead to 7-1 with single tallies in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

In the top of the ninth, the Seahawks rallied for a pair of runs. Senior Kevin McDonnell (Bristol, CT / Avon Old Farms) blasted a home run to left field before junior Tommy Higgins (Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) hit a run-scoring double to left center, plating freshman Dave Pepe (West Caldwell, NJ / James Caldwell).

McDonnell again led the way for the Seahawks, going 2-for-4 with his first home run of the year and is now 5-for-8 over the first two games with the Dolphins.

Holmes was the tough-luck losing pitcher, yielding four runs, three earned, on six hits and three walks over 5.0 innings. Junior Ryan Van Spronsen (Brantford, Ontario / Assumption College) hurled the final 3.0 innings.

Kevin Lehane, Ratliff and Walker each went 2-for-4, leading the way for the Dolphins.

Steve Eagerton yielded one run on three hits and a walk while striking out one over 7.0 innings in improving to 2-0 on the year.
