UC-Davis Defeats Wagner 19-4

Christina Corsa scored five goals and Gina Hoffmire added four goals as the University of California-Davis (UC-Davis) defeated Wagner College 19-4 in women's lacrosse action at Wagner College Stadium.

In winning their seventh straight game, the Aggies improve to 7-1 on the season while the Seahawks fall to 1-6. It marked the sixth time this season that the Aggies have scored 19 goals or more in a game.

UC-Davis galloped out to an early 6-0 lead before Wagner got on the board via a goal by junior midfielder Lauren Petrik (Baldwinsville, NY/ Baldwinsville) off an assist from junior defender Denieda McCullough with 22:12 remaining in the opening half. Following a Corso goal, Wagner scored its second goal of the game, this one sent home by McCullough off a Petrik assist which came at the 15:05 mark of the first half.

UC-Davis then ended the half on a 5-0 run to seize as 12-2 halftime lead. Wagner received second-half goals from freshman Leea Sinay (Marcellus, NY/ Marcellus) and junior midfielder Carolyn Clark (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill). Freshman Morgan Roach (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) gained the start in goal and recorded 12 saves in a 51-minute stint before giving way to senior Marcela Hernandez (Freeport, NY/ Freeport) who played the final nine minutes of the game.

UC-Davis out-shot Wagner 35-11, led in ground balls 19-11 and in draw controls, 17-8. In addition to her five goals, Corsa assisted on three others to finish with eight points on the afternoon. Hoffmire had one assist to finish with five points. Vanessa Jamison Anna Geissbuhler had four points apiece as each tallied three goals and one assist. Jordan Majka had four saves in goal for the Aggies.

The Seahawks are next in action on Friday, March 22 when they host local rival LIU in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams. Opening draw is set for 4:00 pm.
