Seahawks Split Two-Game North Carolina Sojourn In Falling 15-2 At High Point

The Wagner College women's lacrosse wound up with a split of its two-game Spring Break swing through North Carolina, dropping a 15-2 decision to High Point three nights after the Seahawks dispatched of Presbyterian, 20-11.

With the loss to High Point, the Seahawks fall to 1-3 on the season while the Panthers improve to 4-2.

High Point got things going its way early, pulling out to a 7-0 halftime lead. The Panthers would score the first two goals of the second half to go up 9-0 before Wagner got on the board via a goal by junior defender Denieda McCullough (Freeeport, NY/ Freeport), who tallied an unassisted goal with 22:40 left in the game. The Panthers then scored the next five goals in building a 14-1 lead before junior midfielder Carolyn Clark (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) notched an unassisted goal with 6:42 remaining in the game.

MacKenzie Carroll had a four-goal evening to pace the Panthers while Grace Gaeng added three goals. Scoring two goals for High Point were Chelsea Thompson and Alexi Goldman. Lauren Hayes had six saves in goal in notching the win for High Point which held a 33-10 advantage in shots, a 14-5 edge in draw controls and led in ground balls by a narrow 32-26 margin.

Senior Marcela Hernandez (Freeport, NY/ Freeport) gained the start in goal for Wagner and recorded four saves in 22 minutes of action before freshman Morgan Roach (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) came on to stop five shots over the next 38 minutes. Junior defender Casey Lindine (Easton, CT/ Joel Barlow) led Wagner in ground balls and caused turnovers with four in each category.

The High Point game marked the third in a five-game road swing for the Seahawks who are next in action on March 18 at Villanova in a 6:00 pm contest.
