Iannacone Leads Wagner At METS Championship

Bronx, NY - The Wagner men's cross country team placed seventh out of 13 teams at the 2011 8K Metropolitan Conference (METS) Cross Country Championships at historic Van Cortlandt Park.

With three-time All-Northeast Conference selection senior Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY / Longwood) not in action, classmate and fellow co-captain led the Seahawk charge, placing 24th in 26:39. Sophomore Daniel Zaccariello (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph By The Sea) was not far behind, finishing 29th with a time of 26:56 while continuing his solid improvement from last season. Freshman James Naglieri (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) took third on the squad and 66th overall with a mark of 28:11. Rounding out the scorers for the Green & White was the duo of sophomore Michael Baio (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph By The Sea) and freshman Timothy Mendez (West Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) with the runners crossing the line 65th (29:35) and 66th (29:38), respectively.

Columbia collected the team title with 22 points while Fordham's Julian Saad was the individual winner on his home course with a time of 25:15. NYU took second (61 points) followed by the Rams (88 points), St. Francis (NY) (124 points), Manhattan (164 points), Rutgers (204 points) with Wagner (223 points) in seventh. Hofstra (243 points) was eighth with Seton Hall (256 points) followed by Long Island (285 points), St. Peter's (300 points), Marist (301 points) and Fairleigh Dickinson (319 points).

The event was heavily attended with six New York City institutions among the field. Also in attendance was former track & field standout and 2010 NEC 3000-meter steeplechase Champion James Johnston.

The Seahawks return to action next Saturday, October 15 when the Green & White travel to Fairfield, CT, for the Father O'Neil Invitational.
