Softball Drops Doubleheader to Manhattan

Staten Island, NY- The Wagner College softball team dropped a pair of games to Manhattan College this afternoon, falling 3-2 in the opener and 8-0 after six innings in the night cap, at Wagner's Lower Athletic Field. With the losses, the Seahawks fall to 13-32 on the season and 7-11 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play. 

In game one, the Jaspers took an early lead in the first frame, plating a run on a single through the right side. Manhattan extended its lead to 3-0 in the top of the third inning, scoring a pair of runs on a double to center field and a single to left. 

In the bottom of the fourth, junior Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) cut the Jaspers' lead to 3-1 after driving in freshman Krysta Fauria (Yorba Linda, CA / Valencia), who reached on a bunt, on a RBI single to left field. 

Sophomore Vanessa Lenart (Fontana, CA / Henry J. Kaiser HS) brought the Green & White within one in the bottom of the sixth after leading off the inning with a home run over the left field fence. However, throughout the remainder of the contest both teams stood scoreless as the Jaspers earned the 3-2 victory. 

In the circle, freshman Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) (6-13) took the loss, hurling a complete game while fanning four batters. 

In the night cap, the Jaspers held the Seahawks scoreless, taking the 8-0 win through six innings of action. 

The Jaspers got on the board in the top of the first frame, plating two of runs on a pair of singles. Manhattan added two more runs in the second inning by driving in runners off two singles. The Jaspers' then extended their lead to 7-0 in the fourth, scoring three runs on a single and a pair of one-run doubles. 

In the top of the sixth, the Jaspers notched their eighth and final run off Kristina Walraven's home run over the right field fence. The Seahawks remained scoreless in the bottom of the frame as Manhattan garnered the win by the eight-run rule. 

Senior Danielle Wagoner (Temecula, CA / Temecula Valley) (0-3) took the loss through 3.2 innings of pitching. 

Wagner returns to action Saturday, May 8th when the Seahawks host NEC competitor Sacred Heart University in a doubleheader at 12:00PM.
