Seahawks Split a Pair at Rebel Games

Kissimmee, FL- The Wagner College softball team picked up its second win of the season today at the Rebel Spring Games. Wagner's win came in the second game of the day against the University of Pennsylvania, 6-5. In game one, the Green & White were blanked by Loyola (Chicago) University 8-0. 

In the Seahawk win vs. Penn, Wagner took an early lead in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by freshman Terah DeBinder (Cypress, CA / Cypress) that drove in freshman Krysta Fauria (Yorba Linda, CA / Valencia), who had reached on a double to left center. In the fourth inning, Wagner tallied a second run on junior Christina Pinkus's (Cohasset, MA / Cohasset) single to right field, scoring freshman Andrea Carini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe), who pinch ran for senior Amanda deLancellotti (San Clemente, CA / Florida C.C. at Jacksonville) (reached on a single up the middle). 

In the sixth frame, the Seahawks extended their lead to 6-0. Fauria drove in the first run of the inning on a ground out to first base, plating junior Emily Pierce (Phoenix, AZ / Desert Vista), who reached on a single up the middle. DeBinder extended Wagner's lead to 5-0 on a single to left, scoring freshman Carley Nicoletti (Plainville, NY / C.W. Baker), who was walked and senior Danielle Wagoner (Temecula, CA / Temecula Valley), who pinch ran for junior Jamie El-Aazami (Houston, TX / Cypress Falls) (reached on an error by Penn's second baseman). After a pitching change by the Quakers, senior Kate Eshelman (Reno, NV / McQueen) plated Wagner's final run on a single down the right field line, scoring DeBinder. 

In the bottom of the frame, Penn rallied back by scoring five runs on five hits and a Wagner miscue, but it was a case of too little too late as Wagner held on for the win. 

In the circle, DeBinder earned her second win of the season through 5.2 innings of action. Finishing the game for the Green & White was sophomore Amanda Garcia (Fresno, CA / California State University, Fresno) who hurled the final 1.1 innings. 

In game one, the Seahawks were blanked by Loyola (Chicago) University by an 8-0 count. The Ramblers jumped out to a three-run lead in the third frame, scoring on a pair of home runs. Loyola went on to scatter two one -run innings in the fourth and fifth and its last three runs in the seventh. 

In the circle, freshman Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) tossed 5.0 innings while allowing four earned runs and striking out three. Wagoner finished the game though 1.0 inning of play, allowing three earned runs. 

Wagner returns to action at the Rebel Spring Games tomorrow, March 10th when the Seahawk face Fairfield at 11:00 AM and La Salle at 1:00PM.
