Wagner Softball Drops Two Games to Akron in Final Day of Rebel Spring Games

Kissimmee, FL- The Wagner College softball team dropped a pair of games early this afternoon to Akron University in the final day of the Rebel Spring Games. In game one, the Seahawks lost by a 4-3 count before falling in game two, 6-1. With the losses, the Seahawks finish 3-6 at the Rebel Games and fall to 4-14 on the season. 

In game one, the Seahawks' late two-run rally in the seventh was not enough as Akron held on for a 4-3 victory. 

Akron jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first, scoring off a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly. In the top of the fourth, the Zips tallied their fourth and final run on a fielder's choice. 

The Green & White battled back, scoring a run in the fifth on freshman Krysta Fauria's (Yorba Linda, CA / Valencia) single up the middle. Scoring on the play was junior Hailey Corthell (Reno, NV / Reno) who reached on a single up the middle. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Wagner scored a run off Arkon's Andrea Arney's wild pitch. Sophomore Amanda Garcia (Fresno, CA/ California State University, Fresno) drove in Wagner's final run on a single up the middle, scoring Fauria. 

In the circle, freshman Terah DeBinder (Cypress, CA / Cypress) took her second loss of the season through 1.0 inning of play. Senior Danielle Wagoner (Temecula, CA / Temecula Valley) came on to pitch the final six innings of the game. 

In game two, the Zips held the Seahawks to just one run on four hits en route to a 6-1 victory.
Wagner got on the board early, plating a run off Garcia's single to right field. Scoring on the play was Fauria who reached on a single through the right side. 

Akron responded by notching runs in the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth 

Sharing duties in the circle was Garcia and freshman Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run). Garcia hurled 3.2 innings of action while Betz finished the remaining 2.1 innings. 

Wagner returns to action Wednesday, March 24th when the Seahawks travel to Lafayette College for a double header at 3:00 pm.
