DeBinder improves to 3-0 as Seahawks Edge La Salle, 3-2

Kissimmee, FL- The Wagner College softball team split a pair of games this afternoon at the Rebel Spring games. After a 5-0 loss to Fairfield University in game one, the Seahawks picked up their third win of the season in the night cap against La Salle University by a score of 3-2. 

In Wagner's win vs. La Salle, the Seahawks held control of the game, scoring in the first and third innings. The Explores were able to notch one run in the fourth and another in the sixth inning.

In the top of the first, the Seahawks jumped out an early lead when sophomore Amanda Garcia (Fresno, CA / California State University, Fresno) plated senior Kate Eshelman (Reno, NV / McQueen), who reached on a single up the middle, on a single to left center. 

With two outs and runners on first and second, junior Emily Pierce (Phoenix, AZ / Desert Vista) extended Wagner's lead to 2-0 on a single up the middle, scoring Garcia who reached on a single to center. The Green & White would score once more in the inning when Christina Pinkus (Cohasset, MA / Cohasset), who was walked, scored on a wild pitch by La Salle's DJ Guinn. 

The Explorers attempted to rally back, scoring a run in the fourth on a Wagner miscue and their last in the sixth on a sacrifice fly. Feshman Terah DeBinder (Cypress, CA / Cypress) and the Seahawks' defense kept the Explorers bats to just two runs on three hits. 

In the circle, DeBinder extended her undefeated record to 3-0 in going the distance. The freshman struck out four batters and allowed just one earned run. 

In game one, the Seahawks were blanked by the Fairfield by a 5-0 count. The Stags took an early lead in the first inning, plating three runs on a pair of singles. Fairfield's two other runs came on a bunt in the third and a sacrifice fly in the sixth. 

Freshman Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) took the loss. In pitching the entire  seven innings, she fanned three batters while allowing five earned runs. 

The Seahawks return to action at the Rebel Spring Games tomorrow, March 11th. The Green & White will face Youngstown State at 9:00 AM and Indiana State at 11:00 AM.
