Men Finish Fifth at Quinnipiac Invitational

Sophomore Thomas Iannacone had the second-best team finish at the Quinnipiac 8K on Saturday

The Wagner College Men's Cross Country team finished fifth at the Quinnipiac Invitational 8K on Saturday. Leading the pack once again for the Seahawks was the reigning Road Runner Sports/Northeast Conference (NEC) Athlete of the Week, sophomore Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY/Longwood). Spector finished fifth overall, in a field consisting of 117 runners, with a mark of 26:17.0.

In addition to Spector, the Seahawks had three other athletes finish in the top 35. Among them was sophomore Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep), who registered an impressive 14th place finish with a time of 26:51.4. Brian Halling (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) and freshman Matt Driscoll (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston) contributed 31st and 35th place finishes, respectively.

Today marked the Seahawks' return to the Quinnpiac 8K course after a two-year hiatus. In their 2006 showing, the top Wagner runner finished in 27:08.6 and the team failed to qualify in the overall standings.

Wagner finished fifth overall with 125 total points. Ahead of them were Yale (121), Monmouth (95), Central Connecticut (88), and Sacred Heart (58). The Seahawks return to action on September 26th, when the travel to the Fairfield Invitational.
