Lazzari Notches 33rd Career Home Run as Seahawks Split Doubleheader with Robert Morris; 1-7, 7-5

The Wagner College softball team split a pair of games this afternoon against Northeast Conference (NEC) rival, the Robert Morris University Colonials. In the first game of doubleheader, the Seahawks fell short by a count of 7-1 before coming out on top in the nightcap, 7-5. 

In game two of the twinbill, the Seahawks battled back and forth with the Colonials en route to a 7-5 victory. 

Senior Andrea Lazzari (Reno, NV / Wooster) put the Seahawks on the board in the top of the first inning with a RBI single to centerfield, scoring sophomore Emily Pierce (Phoenix, AZ / Desert Vista). The Colonials answered back in the bottom of the frame with a RBI single, knotting the game at 1-1. 

In the bottom of the second, Robert Morris took the lead off a double to left center and a single to center field. The Seahawks rallied back in the top of the third, tying the game 3-3. With a runner on first, junior Kate Eshelman (Reno, NV / McQueen) allowed the Green & White to rally back by smashing a two-run home run down the left field line. 

Wagner took the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs on four hits. Eshelman gave the Seahawks the 4-3 advantage by hitting a double to right field, plating senior Jaclyn Vanore (Palisades Park, NJ / Paramus Catholic). Sophomore Amada Garcia (Fresno, CA / California State University, Fresno) followed with a RBI single to center field, driving in Lazzari. Junior Amanda deLancellotti (San Clemente, CA / Florida C.C. at Jacksonville) capped off the inning with a RBI single to center field, scoring Eshelman. In the bottom of the frame, Robert Morris mounted a comeback by scoring two runs on a pair of Wagner miscues. 

In the sixth inning, with two outs and runners on first and second, Eshelman secured the Seahawks' victory with RBI single to center field, scoring Pierce. This lead would stand throughout one and a half innings as the Seahawks earned the win, 7-5. 

Eshelman (6-11) was awarded the win following 4.0 innings of action. The junior struck out one batter and allowed seven hits. At the Plate, Eshelman led the team by going 4-4 with a home run, a double and two runs scored. 

In game one, Robert Morris' strong defensive stance kept the Seahawks to just three hits and one run. Lazzari was Wagner's lone run producer, lacing her 15th home run of the season. 

In the bottom of the first inning, Robert Morris jumped out to a four run lead, plating runs on a home run, a Wagner miscue and a two-run double. Lazzari led off the top of the fourth with her solo homerun, cutting the Colonials' lead to 3-1. The Colonials would respond in the fifth by extending their lead to 7-1, scoring three unearned runs on a single and a two-run triple. This lead would hold throughout the remainder of the contest as the Colonials garnered the 7-1 victory. 

In the circle, freshman Kaeylnn Armneta (Reno, NV / McQueen) took the loss, dropping to 11-14. The RHP tossed one inning, while fanning two batters. 

Lazzari's home run puts her tied for first on the school's all-time career record list with 33. 

The Seahawks (22-27, 7-11 NEC) return to action Tuesday, April 28 when they travel to Bronx, NY to face Fordham University in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
