Staten Island, NY-
The Wagner College softball team dropped both games of a Northeast Conference (NEC) doubleheader this afternoon to Quinnipiac University. In game one of the twinbill, the Seahawks fell short, 9-2, before losing the second game, 10-4.

In game one, the Seahawks jumped out to an early two-run lead in the first inning. Unfortunately, this lead would not hold as the Bobcats scattered nine runs across the third, fourth, and sixth innings en route to the 9-2 victory.

Wagner came out strong in the first frame, loading the bases on two walks and sophomore Amanda Garcia's (Fresno, CA / California State University, Fresno) single through the left side. Senior Jaclyn Vanore (Palisades Park, NJ / Paramus Catholic) put the Seahawks on the board with a two-run single through the right side, driving in senior Andrea Lazzari (Reno, NV / Wooster) and sophomore Emily Pierce (Phoenix, AZ / Desert Vista).

Quinnipiac rallied back to take the lead in the top of the third inning, loading the bases on two hits and a fielder's choice. The Bobcats notched their first run on a single to the pitcher, bringing the score to 2-1. Quinnipiac then plated a pair of runs on a single through the left side to take the lead, 3-2.

The Bobcats propelled out to an 8-2 lead in the fourth stanza, plating five runs on four hits and a Wagner miscue. In the top of the sixth inning, the Bobcats extended their lead to 9-2 on a single up the middle. This lead would hold through the last inning and a half as Quinnipiac retired Wagner without incident.

Freshman Kaelynn Armenta (Whittier, CA / Paul HS) took the loss after tossing 3.2 innings in the circle, falling to 6-13. The RHP struck out two while allowing three earned runs.

In the nightcap, the Green & White battle back-and-forth with the Bobcats falling by a count of 10-4.
The Seahawks took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, notching a run on Lazzari's solo home run over the left field fence.

The Bobcats responded in the top of the third , plating runners on a two-run single, a sacrifice fly and a RBI double. In the bottom of the stanza, junior Amanda deLacellotti (San Clemente, CA / Florida C.C. at Jacksonville) answered back, lacing a three-run home run over the left field fence to tie the game, 4-4.

Unfortunately for the Green & White the Bobcats took back the lead in the top of the fifth, scoring runs on a three-run home run and a RBI double. Quinnipiac extended its lead to 10-4 in the sixth, driving in runners on a two-run double to center field.

Garcia dropped to 2-2 with the loss, tossing 5.2 innings in the circle. The sophomore fanned one while allowing seven earned runs.

The Seahawks (15-25, 3-9 NEC) return to action tomorrow, April 19, when the host Conference rival Central Connecticut State University in a double header at 12:00 pm.

NOTES  - Today was Senior Day on Grymes Hill as Wagner's four graduating seniors - Andrea Lazzari, Cindy Bagnoli, Jaclyn Vanore and Kelly Moore were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
