Distance Runners Shine at METS Outdoor Championship

Leonia, NJ – Sophomore Derek Schultz (Ocean Port, NJ/Shore Regional), junior Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep), freshman Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep), and sophomore Derek Rammelkamp (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) had strong showings at the NY Mets Outdoor Championships held on Saturday at the Overpeck Park Sportsplex.

Schultz provided a high-point for the Seahawks finishing the 400 meter dash with a season-best time of 49.84 seconds. He placed sixth overall in the event and shattered his previous season-high of 50.2 set on April 8th.

Kearney took ninth place in the 800 meter dash with a season-best time of 1:58.20, while Iannacone and Rammelkamp finished ninth and twelfth respectively in the 1500 meter run. Iannacone finished in 4:05.29, a new season-best for the men.

Other bright spots for the men included Brian Halling (Amherst, NH/Souhegan), who completed the 5000 meter run in 15:40.55 to take fifth place honors. Junior Matt Villane (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) also finished well - taking third in the 400 meter hurdles with a 55.65 mark.

Thrower Blake Lintelman (Coral Springs, FL/West Point) performed well in his individual events. He took seventh place in the discus with a season-best mark of 39.25m, then finished sixth overall in the shot put with a mark of 13.66m.
