Staten Island -
The Wagner College women's lacrosse team put up a bold fight vs. Columbia and trailed by just a 7-5 count early in the second half before the Lions pulled away for a 12-7 victory at frigid Wagner College Stadium.

After Columbia's Holly Glynn opened the scoring with a goal 52 seconds into the game, goals by sophomore attack Karen Vitkus (Skaneateles, NY/ Skaneateles) and senior attack Kelly Blundin (Plymouth Meeting, PA/ Plymouth-Whitemarsh), the latter on a free position shot with 23:11 left in the half, gave Wagner a 2-1 lead. With the game tied at 2-2. Blundin tallied her second goal of the game to put Wagner on top 3-2 midway through the first half. The Lions then closed the half with a pair of goals in the final 6:23 before intermission to forge a 4-3 halftime edge.

Glynn began the second half much like the first, burying a goal 47 seconds into the final stanza to make it 5-3 before senior attack Jessica Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/ Jenkintown) notched a goal 1:10 seconds later, drawing the Seahawks to within 5-4. The Lions reeled off the next two goals it 7-4. Freshman midfielder Lauren Petrick (Syracuse, NY / Baldwinsville) got one back for Wagner with 16:39 to go but that is as close as the Seahawks would get as Columbia tallied the next three goals to build a commanding 10-5 lead.

Britanny Shannon paced Columbia with three goals and an assist, Gabrielle Geronimos had a hat trick as well while Glynn and Rachael Ryan added two goals apiece. Emma Mintz came up with seven saves in goal for the Lions.

Blundin's two goals led Wagner while scoring one goal apiece for the Seahawks were Richmond, Vitkus, Petrik, freshman midfielder Carolyn Clark (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill), and senior midfielder Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill). In goal, junior Alex Johnston (Manlius, NY/ Fayetteville-Manlius) stopped 12 shots.

With the win, the Lions remain perfect at 3-0 while Wagner falls to 0-3.
