GAME 2

Kissimmee, FL-
The Wagner College softball team capped the Rebel Games on a high note, earning victories over Brown and Hartford to finish the 14-game Spring Break trip with a record of 5-9.

Senior Andrea Lazzari's (Reno, NV / Wooster) walk-off RBI single keyed a 5-4 win over Brown in today's opener  which was followed by a 7-0 win over Hartford , a victory that was highlighted by a three-hit shutout twirled by freshman pitcher Kaelynn Armenta's (Whittier, CA / Paul HS),

The annual trip to Florida got off to a rocky start for Wagner as the Seahawks dropped their first five games, three of which were by one run and a fourth that came in extra innings. The Seahawks ended the trip by winning five of their final nine games in fashioning the 5-9 trip and returning home with an overall season record of 6-14.

In game one today, Wagner appeared to be in control with a 4-0 lead before the Brown Bears rallied to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning. Wagner struck first, plating a run in the bottom of the second inning on sophomore Hailey Corthell's (Reno, NV / Reno) double to right center, driving in senior Jaclyn Vanore (Palisades Park, NJ / Paramus Catholic) for the 1-0 advantage.

In the fourth, the Seahawks drove in three more runs to extend their lead to 4-0. All three of Wagner's runs came across on junior Kate Eshelman's (Reno, NV / McQueen) home run over the left field fence, which came with sophomore Emily Pierce (Phoenix, AZ / Desert Vista) and senior Cindy Bagnoli (Old Tappan, NJ / Old Tappan) aboard.

The Bears rallied in the top of the sixth, tallying four runs to tie the game at 4-4. Brown's runs came on a Wagner miscue, an RBI single up the middle and a two-run single up the middle. Lazzari responded in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off single, knocking in Bagnoli for the winning run.

Eshelman improved to 2-7, through her 7.0 innings in the circle. The junior struck out two while allowing three earned runs.

At the plate, Eshelman made a significant contribution, going 1-3 with two RBI's. Bagnoli finished with two of Wagner's seven hits and scored two runs.

In game two, a seven-run Seahawk uprising in the fifth, in combination with Armenta's stingy pitching and a stellar performance all-around defensive effort, led Wagner to the 7-0 whitewashing of Hartford.

The contest remained dead locked at 0-0 until the fifth inning when the Seahawks bats came alive, plating seven runs. Wagner's first three runs came on Lazzari's double to right center, driving in Pierce, Bagnoli and freshman Vanessa Lenart (Fontana, CA / Henry J. Kaiser HS). Junior Amanda deLancellotti (San Clemente, CA / Florida C.C. at Jacksonville) brought the game to 4-0 on an RBI-single to shortstop, driving in Lazzari. Vanore capped-off the inning with a three-run homer over the left field fence to bring in deLancellotti and freshman Amanda Garcia (Fresno, CA / California State University, Fresno).

In addition to allowing just three runs, Armenta recorded eight strikeouts while facing 25 batters, which is just four over the minimum.

At the plate, Vanore led the Seahawks batting 3-4, highlighted by her three-run home run. Lazzari added RBI's in the win.

Wagner returns to action on Tuesday March, 24 when they travel to Philadelphia, PA to face Temple University. First pitch is set for 2:30 pm.
