Wagner Swimming Falls to Columbia, 119-83

The Wagner College swim team lost just its second meet of the season, dropping a non-conference decision to the Lions of Columbia University this afternoon by a count of 119-83. With the defeat, the Seahawks' overall record falls to 6-2, yet they remain a perfect 3-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) action. 

Senior Lindsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA / Canyon) gave the Seahawks their first win of the competition in the 50 freestyle, finishing with a time of 25.08. In the 100 butterfly, junior Jessica Hart (Summerfield, NC / Northwest) bested the field with a 57.86 finish. The Green & White led the way in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:40.10. 

Wagner swam to a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay, recording a time of 1:52.55. In the 100 freestyle, freshman Lauren French (Colmar, PA / North Penn HS) garnered a second-place finish in 55.23. Sophomore Bethny Brown (Enfield, CT / Ennco Fermi High) earned second-place in the 100 breaststroke, posting a 1:10.65. Freshman Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA / Wilson HS) recorded a season-best mark in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.64. 

Senior co-captains Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA / Souderton) and Colleen Bowman (Hauppauge, NY / Hauppauge) both had noteworthy times in the 1650 freestyle, clocking in at 17:45.37 and 18:05.99, respectively. 

"We swam a very good team from a very good conference today,” remarked Seahawk head coach Mark Sowa. “We competed to win most events and battled well in the others. I still feel like we need to execute our skills better but overall we are pleased with today's performance." 

The Seahawks return to the pool Saturday, January 31 when they travel to New Britain, CT to face Central Connecticut State University in an NEC match-up.
