New York, NY – Wagner saw its four-game winning streak come to an end as Columbia ran past the Seahawks 84-69 despite 13 points from fifth-year senior guard

With the loss, Wagner falls to 4-2 on the season while the Lions improved to 3-4.
Wagner was in control at 19-13 before the Lions embarked on a 12-0 run to seize a 25-19 lead. Columbia took a 43-33 lead into halftime, its biggest lead of the half, on a tip-in by center Zack Crimmins at the buzzer. Columbia was 7-of-14 from three-point range in the opening half.
Sophomore forward Clifton Spiller (Pleasantville, NJ/ Holy Spirit), coming off a career-high eight-point outing at Bucknell, led the Seahawks in scoring in the opening half with six points to go with four rebounds. Eight different players found the scoring column in the opening stanza.
Columbia opened the second half with an 5-0 spree to open a commanding 49-33 lead with on with 18:07 left in the game. Wagner would draw to within eight at 55-47 on three-point jumper by freshman
Chris Martin (Sicklerville, NJ/ Apex Academies) with 12:20 left in the game. But Columbia reponded with a 9-0 spurt, capped by a three-point jumper by K.J. Matsui to go up 64-47 and the Lions never looked back.
Fifth-year senior guard
Justin Drummond (Baltimore, MD/ McDonogh) added 12 points while fifth-year senior forward
Jamal Smith (Baltmore, MD/ Towson Catholic) added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Seahawks.
Columbia had a balanced attack with five players scoring in double figures led by guard Jack Foley's game-high 18-point outing. Small forward Joe Bova added 16 points while post players Asenso Ampim and Jason Miller and Matsui, a guard, scored 11 points each. Columbia out-shot Wagner 53%-46% and led in the rebounding department by a 37-31 edge.
Wagner is next in action on Saturday when the Seahawks host its second consecutive Ivy league foe when Yale pays a visit to the Spiro Center for a 2:00 pm contest. Yale is 2-4 on the season, coming off a 76-66 victory over intrastate rival Holy Cross.
