Radford Carries Seahawks to 59-44 win over Saint Peter's with Career-High 26 Points and 12 Rebounds

FINAL STATS

Staten Island, NY –
Senior forward Llew Radford (Newport News, VA/ Heritage) poured in 26 points, his second consecutive career-high scoring output, and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Wagner to a 59-44 victory over Saint Peter's.

With the win, the Seahawks even their record at 1-1 on the young season, while the Peacocks fall to 0-2.
For Radford, it marked his second consecutive double-double as he turned in a 17-point, 13-rebound in the season opener vs. Lafayette. The 6-4 Radford, who scored in double figures just four times last season, shot 9-of-15 from the floor, was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line, dished out two assists, blocked one shot and had one steal in an ultra-productive 32-minute stint.

The first half was a close affair until the Seahawks went on a 9-2 tear in the final 1:50 of the half, capped by a floater in the lane by fifth-year senior guard Justin Drummond (Baltimore, MD/ McDonogh), that gave Wagner a 35-26 halftime cushion. Saint Peter' would get as close as seven points on a three-pointer jumper by Wesley Jenkins with 11:33 left in the game but Wagner quickly pushed the lead back up to double digits on a three-pointer by senior guard Doug Elwell (Staten Island, NY/ Monsignor Farrell) that made it 57-47 with 11:03 left.

The Seahawks built their biggest lead of the game of 16 on an old-fashioned three-point play by Radford as he drove the lane with authority, absorbed the contact, and made the free throw to make it 56-40 with 5:16 remaining.

Fifth-year senior guard Joey Mundweiler (Olathe, KS/ Olathe East) and fifth-year senior forward Jamal Smith (Baltimore, MD/ Towson Catholic) added eight and seven points, respectively, for the Seahawks while Drummond and Elwell chipped in with six points apiece. Drummond matched his career high with six assists and added six rebounds. Jenkins was the lone Peacock in double figures with 20 points. Forward Akeem Gooding and guard Nick Leon added eight points apiece for Saint Peter's.

Wagner held Saint Peter's to 28.6% shooting (16-of-56) while the Seahawks made 47.7% (21-of-44) of their field goal attempts. Wagner won the battle of the boards 40-28. Wagner shot a robust 76.9% from the free throw line as the Seahawks, led by Radford's 5-for-5 shooting, drained 10 of their 13 foul shots.

The Seahawks are next in action on Saturday, November 22 when they travel to Stony Brook to meet the Seawolves in a 2:00 pm. tilt. The Wagner-Stony Brook game can be heard via a free live audiostream by clicking HERE.
