Junior Saquan Mitchell of the men's indoor track & field team is the Walsh Electrical Contracting Male Student-Athlete of the Month for Janurary. The junior, who has qualified for the IC4A Championships, broke Coleman Edmond's record from 2008 in the 60 meters on January 18 at the Saturday Night Shootout, crossing the line in 6.93 seconds. The following week (1/24), Mitchell ran 6.92 at the NYU Team Challenge in finishing second overall and first among attached competitors. On the final weekend of the month, Mitchell ran even faster, finishing in 6.91 seconds at the METS Championships, taking third place. Along with his impressive 60-meter performances, Mitchell turner in a stellar 200-meter performance at the METS Championships, placing fifth with a career-best time of 22.43 seconds. The 200-meter performance was just a tenth of a second off of Derek Schultz's school record time of 22.42, set in 2009.
