Wagner College midfielder Shea Gegan (Manasquan, NJ/ Manasquan) capped her brilliant freshman season by being named to the All-Northeast Conference (NEC) Second Team as well as to the All-NEC Rookie Team, in a vote by the league’s head coaches. The 5-10 Gegan put an explanation point on the 2013 campaign with a fine display of skill and versatility, helping to guide Wagner to a 20-2 win over LIU Brooklyn (4/19) with two goals and two assists while contributing a career-high six ground balls and three caused turnovers. For the season, the aggressive and opportunistic Gegan shattered the school single-season record for caused turnovers with 42, bettering the previous mark of 33 held by Stacy Murphy (1998). Those 42 caused turnovers over a 17-game season translated into a 2.47 per game average, which ranked No. 1 in the NEC. Gegan was also ranked fifth in the conference with an average of 2.41 ground balls per game."Being named to an NEC postseason team is a great honor and we are extremely proud of Shea and her efforts this season," said Seahawk fifth-year head coach Cristina Curiale. "These accolades are a direct reflection of the hard work and intensity that she brings to our team every day." Gegan led the 2013 Seahawks in three major statistical categories this season, ranking first on the team in caused turnovers (42), ground balls (41) and draw controls (34). As a team, Wagner finished the 2013 season with a 6-11 overall record and a 2-7 mark in the NEC, which placed the Seahawks in eighth place.
