Senior Ryan Van Spronsen (Brantford, Ontario / Assumption College) is the Wagner College Men’s Student-Athlete of the Month for March. Serving as the team’s ace, Van Spronsen was outstanding in the Seahawks’ first full month of the season, going 3-1 with a 2.30 ERA and three complete games over 43.0 innings. Van Spronsen began the month by leading the Green & White to its first win of the season at Charlotte (3/3), striking out two while yielding three runs over 8.0 solid innings in an 11-4 victory over reigning Atlantic 10 Champion Charlotte (3/3). The Canadian native followed that up with another victory against a NCAA Regional participant from a year ago, striking out a career-best nine while yielding one run on just five hits in a complete –game performance at Jacksonville (3/10). Van Spronsen then opened up Northeast Conference (NEC) play with his third-straight win, a complete game shutout against Quinnipiac (3/17), as Wagner captured a 1-0 victory. Then facing preseason NEC pick Monmouth (3/23), Van Spronsen was the tough-luck loser, striking out seven while surrendering two runs on just five hits in another nine-inning complete game. He capped his big month with 8.0 innings of work at Mount St. Mary’s (3/30), before leaving with the score tied at 4-4. On the year, Van Spronsen is 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA, three complete games, 26 strikeouts and a .235 batting average against over 48.0 innings of work – all of which lead the team.
