COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Wagner men's tennis team lost to No. 11 Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, dropping the match 4-0. This was Wagner's first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
In the doubles round, sophomore
Eddie Schmidt and redshirt-freshman
Lukas Escher, fresh off their All-NEC first doubles selection, put up a fight on court 1, trailing by only one game before A&M clinched the doubles point with identical 6-3 scores on courts 2 and 3.
In the singles round, the Aggies won each of their three singles matches in straight sets, but not without some push-back from the Seahawks. Senior

Tom Lamers, and Escher all came within a game of clinching what would've been the first set win in Wagner's NCAA history. However, A&M clinched wins on courts 1 and 5, before finishing off their victory on court 2.
Despite the first-round exit, it was still a historic season for the Seahawks. They earned their first NEC Player of the Year (Schmidt), their first NEC Rookie of the Year (Escher), cultivating in their first-ever NEC Championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Seahawks will return to the courts in the 2026-27 season.
