Sydney Mulroony's Overtime Goal Lifts Seahawks Over Reigning Champion LIU, 9-8

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The current NEC Defensive Player of the Week sophomore Sydney Mulroony found the back of the net less than one minute into overtime to power Wagner past the defending conference champion LIU Sharks at Shark Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Mulroony scored her fourth goal of the day after junior Alex Wright earned her second draw control to give the Seahawks possession to begin overtime. With her four goals, Mulroony also corralled two ground balls, caused one turnover, and earned two draw controls.

The Seahawks (3-6, 3-0 NEC) started hot early and led 5-2 early in the second quarter. Senior Kristina Pisano finished the day with four goals, with three occurring in the opening period. For Pisano, this marks her second consecutive game scoring four goals.

At the half, Wagner held a 5-3 lead.

Junior Sydney Ecker tallied her sixth goal of the season in the third period. The Seahawks entered the fourth period with a 7-4 lead over the defending NEC champion, LIU Sharks.

In the fourth, the Sharks (5-5, 2-1 NEC) went on a run on its own and outscored Wagner, 4-1, to start the period. The Seahawks and Sharks were tied, 8-8, with 1:12 remaining in regulation.

Junior Alex Wright attempted a shot that was blocked to end regulation. The two teams who met in the 2025 NEC Semifinals now go into overtime for the second consecuive season.

In overtime, Wright collected her second draw control of the game which Mulroony then capitalized on out of a Coach McPartland timeout, 31 seconds into extra time.

Mulroony and Pisano ended the game with four goals each. This is the second consecutive game that both Mulroony and Pisano have scored four goals. Ecker added her goal in the third period.

Junior Grace DeCarolis played all 60 minutes in net, saving eight shots and earned her third consecutive win of the season. Senior Erin Rooney recorded a team-high two caused turnovers and two draw controls. Mulroony and Wright also collected two draw controls.

The Seahawks collected 17 ground balls to LIU's 14. Wagner took 27 shots to LIU's 22.

The Wagner-LIU regular season game during the 2025 season also went into overtime. Junior Emily Ryan scored the game-winning goal on a free-position attempt to give LIU its only regular season NEC loss of the 2025 campaign.

Next up, Wagner heads up to Le Moyne on Saturday, March 28 for an 11 a.m. start on Ted Grant Field. Le Moyne and Wagner are the two remaining 3-0 teams in the NEC.
