Women’s Lacrosse Downs New Haven, 14-9, to Stay Unbeaten in NEC Play

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner women's lacrosse team used a strong first half to earn a 14–9 victory over conference newcomer New Haven on Saturday afternoon at Hameline Field.

Wagner (2-6, 2-0 NEC) jumped out to an early lead as senior Kristina Pisano found the back of the net on the Seahawks' first possession of the game. Senior Shea Saracino followed with a goal before New Haven (2-5, 1-1 NEC) got on the board with its first tally. Pisano closed the quarter with another goal to give Wagner a 3-1 lead at the end of the opening frame.

The Green & White carried that momentum into the second quarter, erupting for five goals to take an 8-4 advantage into halftime.

Both teams scored twice in the third quarter, before Wagner pulled away in the fourth. Junior Alex Wright and sophomore Sydney Mulroony each recorded two fourth-quarter goals to help secure the Seahawks' second conference win of the season.

Pisano led the way with a career-high six points on four goals and two assists, while Mulroony matched her with four goals. Wright added a hat trick, while Saracino, junior Sydney Ecker, and junior Amelia Logan each found the back of the net.

The Seahawks controlled play throughout the contest, outshooting New Haven 44-22 and holding a 32-19 edge in ground balls. Wagner also won the draw control battle, 14-11.

Defensively, junior Grace Decarolis played all 60 minutes in goal, making six saves to secure the victory.

Wagner will look to continue its strong start to conference play when the Seahawks return to action this week against reigning NEC champion LIU on Wednesday, March 25. The opening draw is set for 3 p.m. at Shark Stadium in Brookville, N.Y.
