RICHMOND, Va. — Wagner took a strong contingent to compete at Richmond's Fred Hardy Invitational on Friday, taking home six first-place finishes.
Freshman Noah Grant won the men's 100m with a 10.84-second time, one of two underclassmen to finish in the top five. Fellow freshman Ersell McCullen logged an 11.24-second time to finish 14th.
Grant also finished second in the 200m, clocking in at 21.57 seconds to finish behind Marist's Amari Mathis at 21.52. Sophomore Julio Tatis, running for the Seahawks in his second outdoor season after his first ever indoor season, ran a 21.59-second time to finish third. Senior Alex Taddeo came tenth with a 22.22-second finish.
Tatis won the 400m, running a 47.88-second race to beat out Coppin State's Timothy Frederick with a 48.10-second time in second place. Junior Arjanvir Singh, making his outdoor debut for the season, ran a 49.97-second time to finish 17th.
Senior Dante Rodney won the 400m hurdles with a 55.22-second time, joined by junior Michael Seawright in eighth place with a 58.03 time.
In long jump, Wagner took three of the top four finishes, with junior Jack Mason leading the way with a 7.34m jump to finish first. Sophomore Ty Lawless was just behind with a 7.07m jump for second, then junior Khalid Brown took fourth with a 6.98m jump.
Senior Christopher Milillo, competing in hammer throw during outdoor season, took second place as the highest collegiate finisher with a 60.44m throw. In javelin, senior Dario Sina de la Fuente won the event with a 64.26m throw, 16m farther than the next closest competitor.
Graduate Justin Morris took third place in the 1,500m, running a 3:54.10 time, less that two seconds behind first place. Graduate Florian Hinry also competed running a 3:59.47 time to finish 15th.
Wagner also won the 4x100 relay, with Taddeo, Mason, senior Shawn Keegan and Grant running a 40.62-second race to finish ahead of second-place Buffalo's 40.99-second time. Wagner's first 4x400 relay team — made up of sophomore Ignacio San Juan, Hinry, freshman James Torres and Morris — finished ninth with a 3:31.13 time. The second relay team — made up of freshman Ersell McCullen, sophomore David Akinola, Seawright and sophomore Sal DelPesce — finished 11th with a 3:32.88 time.
Next up, Wagner heads to the Monmouth Home Opener, beginning Friday, March 27 in West Long Branch, New Jersey. Hosted by Monmouth at Kessler Stadium, the meet wraps up Friday, March 28.
