VILLANOVA, Pa. – The No. 20 Wagner women's water polo team closed out its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekend on a strong note Sunday afternoon, earning a 12-10 victory over La Salle at the Villanova Swim Complex.
Wagner opened the contest with a fast offensive start, scoring five goals in the first quarter to take an early 5-3 advantage. The Seahawks capitalized on several early opportunities to build momentum and establish control during the opening frame.
La Salle responded in the second quarter, tightening its defense and limiting Wagner to a single goal in the period from freshman
Makayla Ulmer-Lutudromu. The Explorers scored three times in the frame to erase the early deficit and even the score at 6-6 heading into halftime.
The two teams continued to battle in a tightly contested third quarter. Wagner and La Salle each added two goals during the period, keeping the game deadlocked at 8-8 entering the final eight minutes.
In the fourth quarter, the Seahawks regained control. Wagner produced four goals by freshman
Lacey Aquaro, senior captain
Magali Ogg, and two of them from junior
Maylen Sampedro Tarela, in the final frame while holding the Explorers to just two. This allowed the Green & White to pull away late and secure the 12-10 conference victory.
