STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner College men's lacrosse coach Will Fox has announced the team's captains for the 2026 season with senior midfielder Jake Mitchell, senior attacker Smith Callaghan, senior defender Tristan McMahon, and junior defensive midfielder Terry Farrell taking on new leadership responsibilities.
During last season, Mitchell appeared in all 14 games for the Seahawks, making eight starts. The St. Louis, Missouri native finished with a team-high 15 assists and team-best 32 total points to go along with 17 goals, 13 ground balls, four caused turnovers.
On the year, Mitchell took 53 shots, with 34 being on target. Mitchell was one of two Seahawks to be named an NEC Prime Performer twice. First, Mitchell scored two goals, two assists, two ground balls, and caused two turnovers against Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 17 before Mitchell scored three goals and dished out two assists at Detroit Mercy on April 12.
Throughout the 2024 season, Smith Callaghan appeared in 12 games for the Green & White, making seven starts. The Covington, Louisiana native scored four goals on 22 shot attempts, 15 of which were on target.
On the year, Callaghan finished sixth on the roster in total points with 14 and second on the roster with his 10 assists. Callaghan collected 12 ground balls during his junior season. On March 22 at Robert Morris, Callaghan scored one goal and added a season-best four assists against the Colonials.
On the defensive half of the field, Tristan McMahon returns as the only Seahawk player to start all 14 games during the 2025 season. The Commack, New York native collected 30 ground balls, the most among returners, and caused 13 turnovers during his junior year.
During three different games last season, McMahon totaled four ground balls and two caused turnovers - March 1 at Sacred Heart; March 8 at NJIT; and April 26 against Mercyhurst.
Terry Farrell rounds out the four captains for the Seahawks' 2026 campaign. The Bellmawr, New Jersey native did not appear in any games for the Green & White during last year's season, but did appear in 12 games during his freshman season, scoring a goal in Wagner's 9-8 win over Marist on March 9.
On March 23, 2024, Farrell collected a career-high five ground balls at Mount St. Mary's.
Mitchell, Callaghan, McMahon, Farrell, and the rest of the Seahawks embark on their 2026 campaign on Wednesday, Feb. 11, as Wagner hosts Sacred Heart at Hameline Field for a 3 p.m. start.
