Erie, PA - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team finished its 2025 campaign with an overtime loss to Northeast Conference (NEC) newcomer Mercyhurst by a score of 12-11 at Saxon Stadium on Saturday.
After falling behind 3-0 early in the first quarter, the Seahawks responded with back-to-back goals off the sticks of junior Jake Mitchell and senior Patrick Caldwell in the middle of the period.
To conclude the high-scoring first quarter, Mercyhurst scored two more goals as freshman Sean Sanchez found the back of the net with one minute to go in the frame.
After 15 minutes of action, Mercyhurst held onto a 5-3 lead.
In the second quarter, the Seahawks would hold the Lakers scoreless while tallying four goals themselves to head into halftime with an 7-5 advantage.
Sanchez began the second period as he ended the first, scoring less than three minutes into the frame off of an assist from Mitchell.
Also in the second, Pat Caldwell scored twice to grant himself his second hat-trick in his last three outings. Senior Ethan Sieb connected on an unassisted goal with a little over five minutes left in the half.
To start the second half, Jake Mitchell extended Wagner's lead to three. For the remainder of the third, Ethan Sieb and the Lakers would trade goals as Sieb recorded the second hat-trick of his senior season with two goals in the third.
Heading into the final quarter, the Seahawks held a 10-7 lead.
In the fourth, Mercyhurst would outscore Wagner, 5-1, to force an overtime period.
Senior Daniel Mercado scored the lone goal in the final period for the Green & White, finishing his senior season with five goals, two assists, 60 ground balls, and 127 face-off wins.
In overtime, Mercyhurst's Chase Petschke scored the game-winning goal in the second period to help the Lakers defeat the Seahawks, 12-11.
Caldwell and Mitchell both ended the game with five points, as Caldwell scored three goals with two assists as Mitchell scored twice and dished out three assists.
On defense, junior Tristan McMahon led the Seahawks with two caused turnovers and four ground balls. Senior Nate Yi recorded 13 saves to finish his season with 59 saves.
Daniel Mercado recorded nine ground balls as the Seahawks collected nine more face-off wins than the Lakers, 18-9.
